Internship at the Embassy of Canada in Venezuela

The Embassy of Canada in Venezuela is offering an internship for candidates at the bachelors degree level or at a superior level in social sciences to acquire work experience in the General Relations section for a period of 4 months minimum, starting in July or early August 2010. Such an internship would allow the intern to familiarize himself/herself with functions of an Embassy (especially those of the political and public affairs section) and develop his/her professional skills. He or she will contribute to promoting the image of Canada in Venezuela while supporting the general relations section with its public diplomacy and academic programs as well as assisting the organization with developing various events and preparing political reporting.   The intern would be required to work from 7:30 to 12:00 from Monday to Friday.

Specific tasks may include:
- Assist in organizing events.
- Assist with administering the Human Rights Prize 2010 of the Embassy.
- Conduct research on domestic political topics.
- Provide support in producing the Embassy’s newsletter (in Spanish).
- Answer questions from the public regarding studies in Canada.

Aptitudes:
- Bilingual (French/Spanish or English/Spanish), with knowledge of the third language as an asset.
- Knowledge of different softwares: Office, Image processing, Web, etc.
- Strong communication skills, written and oral.
- Strong organizational skills, including capacity to work with deadlines and manage workload.
- Ability to work well as part of a dynamic team.
- Flexibility and creativity.

Assets:
- Knowledge of Canada
- Interest in international relations

Conditions:
-The internship is not a paid position. However, an honorarium of 1000 BsF per month will be offered by the Embassy.
- The intern will have to pass a security check (Enhanced Reliability Check).

Stage à l’Ambassade du Canada au Venezuela

L’Ambassade du Canada au Venezuela est à la recherche d’un(e) stagiaire pour la section des Relations générales. Le(a) candidat(e) doit être étudiant(e) universitaire ou diplômé(e) en Sciences Sociales. Le stage sera d’une durée minimale de 4 mois, à partir de juillet ou du début août 2010, et offrira au stagiaire l’opportunité de se familiariser avec le fonctionnement d’une Ambassade (particulièrement d’une section politique et d’affaires publiques) ainsi que de développer ses compétences professionnelles. Le(a) stagiaire contribuera à la promotion de l’image du Canada au Venezuela, en appuyant la section des Relations générales avec son programme de diplomatie publique et la promotion académique. Il/elle participera également à l’organisation d’événements et à la préparation des rapports politiques. Le(a) stagiaire devra travailler du lundi au vendredi, de 7h30 à 12h.

Les tâches spécifiques à accomplir pourraient inclure:
- Appuyer l’organisation d’événements
- Appuyer l’organisation du Prix des droits de la personne 2010 de l’ambassade
- Faire des recherches sur des thèmes de politique intérieure
- Participer à la production d’un bulletin de l’ambassade (en espagnol)
- Répondre aux questions du public concernant les opportunités d’études au Canada

Qualifications et compétences :
- Bilingue (français/espagnol ou anglais/espagnol), avec des connaissances de la troisième langue
- Maîtrise des différents logiciels et outils informatiques: Office, Web, traitement d’images, etc.
- Excellente capacité à communiquer oralement et par écrit
- Fortes compétences organisationnelles, incluant capacité de gérer sa charge de travail et de respecter les échéances
- Capacité de travailler avec une équipe dynamique
- Flexibilité et créativité

Atout:
- Connaissance du Canada
- Intérêt pour les relations internationales

Conditions:
-Le stage n’est pas rémunéré. Cependant, l’Ambassade offrira des honoraires de Bs. 1.000 par mois.
-Le(a) candidat(e) devra passer une vérification de fiabilité.
